Playbills & Moxon Girls

February 27th, 2017

Today we were joined by Carla and Jeannine Callaghan from Uddingston, who are the daughter and granddaughter of Susan Murphy. Who was a Moxon Girl in the 50s. We met at the Glasgow Women’s Library after hearing me mention An Audience With… on the Janice Forsyth Show. Great connections and lovely to meet them and talk about and look at photos of Susan, share and dance together.

And even more excitement today, as during the week Paul had sent an email saying he’d found a framed programme within Festival Theatre’s framed archive, of the Ganjou Brothers and Juanita, whom Marie danced with. We went up to the top landing of the Theatre to go have a look. If that wasn’t exciting enough just above this was a playbill featuring none other than the Raymond Sisters! The first act on the bill after the Overture on 27th November 1944. Marie was delighted and said: ‘I know you don’t think I’m making it up but it’s nice to have proof of all this’ A proud day all round. – Janice Parker
