Back after our summer break, we are using these weeks to build, create and rehearse our live event for the Luminate Festival in October. Doreen and Marie still have a few reservations – ’why would anyone want to come and watch us dancing at our age, why would anyone be interested, what have we got to offer…?’ My job, as is usual for a director, is to keep convincing them otherwise! And I can tell that they are secretly loving the buzz of devising and rehearsing. June, of course, has no such qualms and is passing her enthusiasm and confidence on to the others. We have also been joined by a new troupe member – performer Daisy Douglas, who will perform with us in the show. Fi Johnston is with us as production and technical manager and in her usual exuberant manner does a great job of looking after us, keeping us calm and keeping us on schedule. And Martin Clark is there with us, filming our process. These weekly gatherings are heady days indeed! – Janice Parker
