Meeting Betty

May 7th, 2018

The wonderful Betty Clarkson visited this afternoon and caused a fabulous buzz of excitement around the building. We organized cabs to transport her to and from the theatre. She walked in like she belonged, which of course she does. Betty brought with her many photos and playbills from her collection and gave us, and lots of staff from Festival Theatre who had joined us, a very enjoyable informative talk about her life and career, of which we only heard a fraction I am sure! What a woman, and a font of knowledge, anecdotes, information and history. Betty learned to tap dance on the stage of the Empire Theatre and amazingly, for it is rarely free, we were able to invite her on to that very stage, the Main Stage, and to photograph the moment as a document for the future. What a thrill, a moment in time, a reunion and a making of history. Thanks go to to Doreen for contacting Betty and inviting her to join us! Janice Parker
