June 18th, 2018
Celebrated June’s 91st birthday today, it is hard to believe that it is a year since her 90th. Paul Hudson from Festival Theatre gifted her with three framed prints of her father, Roy Don’s drawings that are part of the Festival Theatre’s archives. June was delighted and regaled us with the tale she is so proud of that “they were drawn with soot from the chimney on the kitchen table at home and always in the way of her mother trying to set the table for the tea”. They are rare and exceptional portrait drawings of some of the big stars of the time. We danced to Chicago at June’s request and as we were in the Millburn Bar, which was displaying a costume exhibition by students at Edinburgh College, folks from the exhibition also joined our dancing.
Betty Clarkson was with us and is now an official member of the troupe. Oh, and June when asked how old she was, answered in true form “77 and I’m good at subtraction. – Janice Parker
